Participation
in the Lord’s Supper is an important way to nurture growth
in faith. Instruction in the sacrament insures that young people
have a basic understanding and appreciation of the gifts God gives
through Holy Communion. Parents are asked to attend the instruction
with their child for an opportunity to share this significant faith
experience.
The instruction is interactive and experiential, rotating between
three learning centers following an introduction in the Great Hall.
Please plan to arrive by 1:45 p.m. It is important to sign in so
we have a complete list of participants! We would like to begin
promptly at 2:00 p.m. Please bring your Bible!!

Optional Craft Activity:
A tradition of our First Communion program is making a stenciled
plaque as a remembrance of this important occasion. This optional
craft activity will be done prior to the instruction, from 1:00-1:45
p.m. in room 405. All participants in First Communion classes are
invited to participate in this activity, and we always appreciate
extra help from parents!
Celebration of First Communion:
The celebration of First Communion is a family occasion at the Maundy
Thursday service on March 15 at 7:00 p.m. Children may dress in
any appropriate “Sunday” clothes. First Communicants
will be presented with a red carnation before the service.
Participation in the sacrament of Holy Communion will be done as
usual with families communing together. As a special part of the
worship service on Maundy Thursday, First Communicants will participate
in a foot-washing ceremony. (Children will need to easily remove
shoes and stockings.)
