Bethany
has a tradition of giving each second grade Sunday school
student a gift of a Holy Bible. We do this to honor what is
promised at baptism – “to place in their hands the Holy scriptures”
– and to help children to read, study, and meet God in the
Bible.
The
presentation of Bibles will be a special ceremony during the
10:30 a.m. worship on Sunday, September 28, 2008.
Second grade students and their families are encouraged to
participate in this special Sunday worship, followed
by a reception in Fellowship Hall.
Children
will receive the gift of a child-friendly version, International
Children's Bible . We will personalize each Bible, and
parents will present the Bible to their child during the service.
Before the worship service, a carnation will be given to each
second grader receiving a Bible, and instructions will be
given to the parents.
It
is our hope that this event will be a significant “faith stepping
stone” in your child's life, which will encourage further
reading of God's Word at home as well as in Sunday School
and in worship. As a congregation, we celebrate with you and
bless you on your faith journey.
It
is essential for families to sign up in advance to reserve
your Bible.
